June 8-9th, 2002
This years Rally was in the Wisconsin
Dells area close by in Baraboo. Gary
Goetz was our Rally destination planner. Paul Bezilla was able to ride down from Canada and meet up with us for
the Rally and the rest came from Wisconsin, Chicago area or New Jersey, besides
myself who came from Houston, Texas. We all stayed at the Highlander
Motel in Baraboo.

1
Our first flat tire on the van in Ennis, Texas just 200 miles from home.
2
Got to a truck stop just before they closed.
3
See what happens when you have kids!
4
Hey! I almost forgot that was back there!
6
Day 3. No wonder I carry 2 spares for the trailer. This is an all
too common thing. We're passing through Minnesota here on the way to
Baraboo, Wi.
7
Personal reminder... don't give the camera to Marie.
8
Bike rides so far forward on the trailer that the rear door clears the bike only
within an inch or two!
9
We made it! Funny thing is we'd stayed in this hotel the year before when
we visited Wisconsin Dells on vacation but we didn't recognize the name when
making reservations for the Rally.
14
Lined up and ready for the Saturday morning breakfast trip.
19
Uhh, what's all that stuff do? Does it make the bike go faster?
20
A fuel cell on a motorcycle?
27
And we arrive at the local Pancake House.
29
Some local scenery at one of the parks nearby.
31
Can't ride one of these bikes without making a side of the road repair every now
and then! After all, the bikes are only 25 years old now.
38
Same picture but now Gary's taking it.
39
OK, so let's take a look at that oil cooler installation on Paul's bike.
43
In fact, don't copy this at all because there's a better way to do it.
We'll make a tech article on it ASAP for the Tech Articles page.
44
Klasmo in Germany has a kit for this on the links page.
46
We'll also make a tech article on the hydraulic clutch conversion for the Tech
Articles page too when we can.
47
Fork boots can be acquired from a later model Voyager 1300 or various shock
manufacturers, maybe even an automotive shock manufacturer may have what you
want. Fork brace can be found on the links page.
49
I show a manual aftermarket oil pressure gauge on my bike on the
"Contact" page but as I recall the problem was the pitch of the
threads on this sending unit. I had an 81' model engine on that particular
bike and there was no adapter that would thread into the engine because of the
odd thread pitch. I ended up ordering a die to put a new thread on a brass
fitting that would screw into the motor. I put a T-Connector on the end so
I could have 2 connections - one for the original sensor and the other for the
hose that went to the gauge. Oil pressure is kind of scary as I remember
with only 5-10 psi at idle, but I think 60psi at higher RPM's.
51
82' model with left side sub-alternator that Kawasaki started using that year.
53
81' and up stock air shocks with adjustable rebound damping.
54
Aftermarket King and Queen seat that was popular in the 80's.
55
What! Only 16k miles! You don't get out enough!
56
The engine casing on an 82' is different than the previous years and can not be
interchanged with older motors, but it appears to be the same as all newer
Voyager 1300's.
58
Chrome covers came stock on some 81' and up bikes.
61
Not so common floorboards on an 80' B2
62
Pipes came off another bike.
63

Chow time at our host Gary Goetz's house in Baraboo, Wi.
84
Maybe I should call it a Ranch!
85
Now these certainly must be the children.
88
Hey Gary! I think it's time for us to go back to the hotel.
89
Now this is the way to travel! Oh, and that's Bill Matchus from Chicago
too! His bike wasn't ready to ride yet so he was our support
vehicle. There's some nice pictures of his bike on the members page.
92
Anyone for a double rainbow? This was somewhere in Minnesota.
94
And another flat on the way home. All this and we had brand new tires we
just couldn't resist running over sharp objects!
If everyone that attended would please send me an email with whatever info or text they want to go with their pictures and refer to the numbers above to indicate what text they want with which picture(s). This would be a good time to tell us a little bit about yourself, your bike, the year, model, how long you've had it, what mod's or updates you've done, the color, or whatever else you can think of and forward to david@kz1300.com and I'll update the page a little at a time as this info comes in. Be sure to indicate what personal info you want included with the pictures ie. name, email address, etc., and what you don't want included. Thanks.
Rally location for 2003 is Cambria, California with our host James Rivers!
Go to Rally 2001, Rally 2003, Rally 2004,...
For future rallies, the idea is that we should get members that live in whatever area of the country we meet in each year to help out with planning rides, lodging, etc., for the other members that will be attending. This will make it easier for everyone to plan the trip and also have some confidence that someone will be there that knows the area fairly well. Also, I spent many hours posting a state directory on the members bulletin board so everyone that wanted to could let others know where they live so you can plan weekend rides together. This info should help us plan future rally's too. Members could also take pictures of their area of the country while they're out and about and send them in so I could post those for potential future rally spots.
